10. WHIP YOURSELF INTO A FRENZY

This lesson actually encourages you to lose control.

Before I became a professional artist I spent about 5 years practicing portraits. I just couldn't get them right. Then one evening I was drawing the family when I became really angry and drew so quickly that I lost control.

There was a shift… I got it!

I actually got it right. All of this time practicing and I had never actually let go and trusted my natural instinctive responses to get the image onto the paper.

The next day I was in the streets charging for my portraits. That was 30 years ago, I am still a professional artist.

Watch the students in a local art class and you will see hesitation, uncertainty and frustration as they try to make every stroke perfect. You have to get past trying. Your expression has to become natural and easy.

When you drive a car, you don’t try, you just do it. However, when you were learning to drive a car, you were very careful but even so your driving was far from perfect, you lacked the confidence to be natural.

Try doing your creative work at breakneck speed, without a seatbelt! Trust your intuitive self to create your intention. Lose control and throw yourself into a frenzy and attack your art. You might be pleasantly surprised!

There you are, I'll send you off at breakneck speed to see what you come up with. You've got what it takes, you just have to take certain crazy steps to release it!
