I imagine I am important

Humanity has an extraordinary ability to find patterns in every aspect of life. We can recognise faces and body shapes from afar. We see trends in behaviour. We can predict physical world behaviors by analyzing previous patterns. We recognise familiar events and even see pictures in random occurrences such as cloud movement.
creative ways
Unfortunately, we don’t seem to know when to stop. We look for omens and give them great value. We conveniently ignore the failure of previous omens to turn to anything useful or meaningful.
creative ways
We find hints and innuendos in conversation and are quick to take offense at what we imagine has been said. The patterns we uncover are not necessarily true but we still cling to them as if they have personal meaning.
creative ways
It is easy to walk down the street and find signs from a god or directions given by angels or  symbols arising from a belief in fairies or gnomes or some other fantastical form of life. Humans are very good at finding patterns. These patterns are not necessarily of any value. They can be coincidental, lucky or ominous, it all depends on your imagination.
creative ways
Regardless of what you think you see, there is no deep and meaningful. There are no secret patterns waiting to be revealed. There is no hidden language of symbols reserved for the few enlightened amongst you. There is simply a 3D screen before you and on this there are an infinite variety of possibilities playing in and out of your mind.
creative ways
The value of each event is invented by you. You are the one who puts personal interpretations onto the impersonal world as it continues to unfold in unique and unpredictably strange ways.
creative ways
Deep and meaningful interpretations are just another form of self-indulgent fantasy. Nobody has a spiritual advantage or a holy insights into anything. You only have your own very personal, imaginative interpretation of the patterns of life. They don’t really care how you interpret them as they swirl in and out of your sensual range and in and out of your fertile imagination.
creative ways
So if you meet a holy person, don’t laugh out loud, because they may be very happy in their deep and meaningful misinterpretation of their imagined patterns of life.

So you think you’re smart?

The parents dream – my children are not only well-behaved, they are attending university and excelling in their studies. One day they will be leaders in their field… A common ideal for parents but reality, a dream headed for failure.

creative blog

Universities, higher education, advanced learning are not the keys to success, happiness or a fulfilling life. They are only steps necessary to achieve a particular lifestyle and career experience.

creative blog

Success is fulfilling your personal ideals. So if you want to be married with 6 children and you achieve it, then you are successful but you are not necessarily happy, wealthy or fulfilled. You have successfully achieved one of your fantasies, nothing else. You have successfully converted a dream into reality.
creative blog
Whether you become a lawyer, doctor or street cleaner you will not be able escape the constant unexpected twists and turns of life. You will still be a victim of life. You will still experience happiness, unhappiness, frustration and pleasure. Within the wide scope of life, your career or your success is but a tiny aspect of the whole.
creative blog
No matter what you achieve, you will not escape from real life. The richest to the poorest, the most famous to the most secretive, all experience the ups and downs of daily life. There is no escape. There is no utopia. Things will not be better when… they will simply be different to what they are now.
creative blog
So whether you’ve got degrees or money, fame or notoriety, you are still subject to the strange and unpredictable punches and kicks that life throws at us all.
creative blog
So what is success? Perhaps success is the ability to make a happy life in an unhappy world.

Bang your head against the wall

There are many situations in life that will not give you the results you desire. Most of your dreams will die on dry ground. Determination often only results in wasted energy and  frustrated efforts.
Colin Perini – creativity
All of the positive thought in the world is not magically going to convert a situation to your favor. You cannot force life, nor can you charm it or coerce it to do things your way. Most likely life, whatever it is, has no interest in your personal goals and fantasies.
Colin Perini – creativity
There is a good possibility that if life does have a purpose, it is for it’s own sake and not for yours. If you swim in the sea and swim against the tide with a positive attitude, do you think the tide might change direction just to please you?
Colin Perini – creativity
If you go to the casino with $50, put it on the roulette wheel and pray really hard, do you think that miraculously, you will win? And if you don’t win and determine to never, never give up, do you think that eventually, you will come out as a winner… I think not!
Colin Perini – creativity
Do you really believe that each little human on this planet is so powerful and so important that if they want something, all they have to do is nag and eventually, that thing called life will give it to them?
Colin Perini – creativity
When you swim in the sea, if you swim with the current, you will probably enjoy the ride with a minimum of effort. If you want to swim against the current and fight life with a blind and unyielding attitude, it is doubtful that you will enjoy the ride. You will waste a lot of energy and possibly even drown – dammit!
Colin Perini – creativity
Perhaps, the best you can hope for is to spot opportunities when you surrender and ride with the tide of life.

Something good might happen!

That cloud looks like an infinite awareness having a mystical experience on planet earth.
Colin Perini – Creative artist
The problem is, the human brain has an extraordinary ability to find patterns in everything. It can cross-reference all manner of possibilities to find a relationship between the most obscure of situations.
Colin Perini – Creative artist
The brain also works well with logic, so when it thinks it has found a relationship, it equates it to discovering a truth, the owner of the brain naturally takes the relationship as reality. The process of scanning for relationships and then accepting them as a truth, can be a matter of moments for the brain.
Colin Perini – Creative artist
When you look at a cloudy sky, you can see all sorts of imagined pictures, especially images that are related to your current situation. These can be easily seen as omens by the ever-obliging, ever-justifying brain.
Colin Perini – Creative artist
Omens from whom? From a god sitting in the sky? From your higher self? Why doesn’t it just tell you the message instead of confusing you with symbols and mystical innuendos? Or are the omens from some other secret source that is too subtle for anybody but you to understand?
Colin Perini – Creative artist
Why the great mystery surrounding these higher messages? If they are really from some form of higher intelligence, doesn’t it speak English? The use of obscure omens seems a dumb way to impart a special message.
Colin Perini – Creative artist
Can’t this source just whisper in your ear or perhaps give a you a good old-fashioned clear vision in a dream? And what’s wrong with emailing? If the hidden power that gives us these wonderful messages is so great and intelligent, surely it can find a clever way to send an email?
Colin Perini – Creative artist
Omens? They are all in your head, created from a brain that is always busy finding relationships, meanings and purposes amidst all of the daily jumble that surrounds you. Stare long enough into the dark and your brain will soon start to create images and omens for you.
Colin Perini – Creative artist
You are probably some sort of awareness in some sort of infinite existence, the number of possibilities at any moment is infinite. The number of relationships that your brain can find is endless and the number of signs, omens and secret messages all depends on your imagination and willingness to believe in it.

What’s wrong with you all?

Everything offends me. I take offense whenever I think somebody disagrees with me. I take offense whenever I am unlucky or if someone else is lucky. I will be offended if you speak bluntly to me or or if you are indirect with me. I also take offense at random events that are simply annoying.
I take offense if something happens that I don’t like or if somebody does something that I would not do. I also take offense if governments don’t behave or if corporations don’t do what I wish they would do.
My friends are only my friends because they have not offended me too much… yet. Everybody else is totally offensive to me.
In fact when I think about it, everything is offensive. Life offends me.
I think it would be okay if things went my way, then I might not take offense so often but things usually don’t go my way and I find that offensive. I’m not sensitive and I am not easily offended, it’s just that everything and everybody else is so annoying.
Someone said to me that perhaps I am the one in the wrong and that I need to accept that life is not easy and that’s the nature of this planet… I took offense at that!

Insensitive, greedy, power-mongering groups

So you are working tirelessly to make a perfect world? You give our time generously so that this planet can be become a wonderful place to live in. You worry about the environment and do what you can to make things better.

How frustrating for you. Exactly how do you intend changing the monstrous conglomerations that rule this world? How do you intend convincing secret governments and greedy corporations that they should be sensible and see it your way?

You are like a single rowboat trying to change the course of a gigantic container ship by shouting at it. You are like a child who has built a sandcastle on the edge of the sea and is desperately trying to save it as the tide comes in. You are wasting your time.

This world is ruled by insensitive, greedy, power-mongering groups who would enslave all of us. It’s nothing new, it has been that way for eons. There has always been the ruthless rulers and their unfair treatment of the masses. It is not going to change.

Most people are not nice. Most people are not honorable and honest. When one leader topples, there will always be another waiting to take is place. The best you can hope for is to make your own little world honest, sincere and comfortable. Mind your own business and do what you can for those you want to spend your life with.

The world is pretty to look at, but it has very sharp teeth and no conscience!

imagination and fantasies

  1. Change is consistent, natural and unpredictable.
  2. Inconsistency is necessary for survival – e.g. you cannot be honest or dishonest all of the time.
  3. The laws of society are not moral, they are rules. I must live within these rules or risk my freedom.
  4. Whenever humans form groups, they form unjust hierarchies.
  5. Society is intolerant to non-conformist behaviour.
  6. Governments put money before people.
  7. Money gives flexibility and choice.
  8. Beauty is attractive to humans.
  9. Confinement is repulsive to humans.
  10. There is no proof of the past. All I have for certain is what is here now.
  11. Memory is unreliable.
  12. The future only exists in the imagination.
  13. Time is inconsistent.
  14. My way of viewing the world is unique.
  15. I will die.

  1. Physical laws of the universe are consistent only on the human scale of things
  2. Nature does not express compassion or favoritism
  3. Every living thing has to make an effort to survive the constant onslaught of nature
  4. Everything is born to die
  5. The physical world is infinite – it cannot be measured
  6. Nature is cyclic
  7. There are other realities – dreams, visions experiences beyond the physical – these are not measurable or consistent or even interpretable.
  8. There are other senses beyond mine
  9. The interpretation of situations depends on me and my attitude
  10. The clarity of my mind depends on the health of my body
  11. I have little control over the varying circumstances of my life
  12. My beliefs vary with circumstances
  13. My senses create reality
  14. I am trapped within my own personality
  15. Humans need personality validation – I must be heard or seen etc.

creative mistakes

It was a mistake to come to this planet.

I mean, I woke up one morning and felt that something was wrong, something big. At first i felt quite unnerved as if I was under threat. After a while, I realised what it was. Something has gone wrong and I’ve ended up on the wrong planet. I don’t belong here.

Listen, how many of you out there are sincere, reliable and honest people? Lots of you! I can hear you from this side of the internet. Well, good honest folks, how many times have you noticed that sincere, reliable and honest people don’t usually attract the kind of luck that sneaky, shady and dubious people seem to have.

Perhaps you always thought that luck played a big role in life on this planet… wrong! It’s all about sharp teeth and stealth. You can win the Lotto tomorrow, but if you aren’t careful, a whole hoard of money-hungry bad guys will sneakily transfer every dollar from your bank into their pockets. You are never safe on this Death Star.

Who controls the wealth of this world? The good guys or those others? The answer is obvious. Cunning, devious personalities seem to win every time. And what happens to the honest folks? They get trampled-upon and ripped-off, all the way to the slave market.

So from daily observation and historical evidence, it appears that the rough and tough rule, while the meek mutter, (they have no power to do anything else). If you are one of the nice people, then it’s not surprising that you aren’t also, one of the lucky people.

When you think about it, it is a death planet. Before humanity subdued it and turned it into a shopping mall, it used to be survival of the fittest, fastest and smartest. Beast would eat beast, everything would eat anything and the winners only survived until something better than them arrived to gobble them up. Every living thing was under the constant threat of being consumed.

Even humans kill to survive. We kill 12 squillion chickens a day, 45 trugllion cows and an uncountable number of harmless hamburgers. This is the way of life on this world. Kill to live. No wonder the strong and heartless rule over the gentle and considerate, we’re simply another meal, immediate gratification for their endless appetite.

So what am I doing here on this nasty, death-driven world? I’ve got a sneaking suspicion that I followed my wife and that it was her idea to come here. ‘Just to have a look around’. She likes to travel. Well next time I’ll not be such a pushover, I’m definitely not coming back!

Anyway, that’s what I think. Well, I think I think that! It’s probably just another of my unrealistic, imaginative fantasies, though I doubt it.

Fanatics knocking on my door

At the end of any ordinary day, you might look back and think about what happened. I drove to work. I interacted with people all day. Some offended me, others made me laugh. I bumped the desk with my toe, that really hurt. Someone rang with bad news… etc.
So many events and so many emotions. Every day you experience an amazing array of situations – some subtle, some blunt and confronting. You react according to the many different filters within that you define as your personality.
You have prejudices, biases, fears and desires and they are all bubbling below the surface of your consciousness trying to get your attention, like eager school kids wanting to be the first with the correct answer.
Imagine the difference, if you decided to go through the day by not reacting, by not judging and by not caring what happened or what others thought about you. Your day would be very different. You might even find that things actually work out better.
Emotions cause a lot of confusion. Expectations cause a lot of disappointment. Lack of confidence creates many difficulties. Trying to replace them with a more positive attitude is not easy. However… replacing them with ‘I don’t care’ takes very little effort.
My rough research has shown that ‘I really don’t give a damn’ would probably solve 92.33% of the worlds problems. The other 7.67% is inbuilt into this planet so that you don’t get the impression that you are here on a holiday!
‘I really don’t give a damn’ takes the sting out of many situations. It helps you detach yourself from your automatic responses and gives you time and space to gather your thoughts and to consider your reactions.
It’s easy to follow blind emotional reactions but rarely do they make a situation simpler. Stop, apply a good dose of ‘I really don’t give a damn’ and then see what you feel. Another really fun aspect of this attitude is that it annoys people who imagine that life is really serious and that everything they think, say or do is very important.
There are a variety of excellent situations in which it can be applied:
  • When a fanatic knocks on your door to thrust religious beliefs upon you, liberally apply a dose of ‘I really don’t give a damn’ and watch their frustration. How can they convert someone who just doesn’t care?
  • When a friendly partner loses her cool (not that you did anything wrong), try acting as if ‘I really don’t give a damn’. It is definitely an excellent form of damage control. All of the ridiculously emotional things you might have said disappear into a veil of vagueness. Leaving you safe after the storm has passed.
  • If you are in a meeting and the bullies are getting the best of you, relax into your best pose of ‘I really don’t give a damn’. Let it show and watch them give up on you. Everybody knows that nothing is ever resolved at a meeting, so you have nothing to lose.
There are over 15,600 other situations where it can be used effectively. Please feel free to complete this list in your own time but don’t tell me about it because ‘I really don’t give a damn’. In fact because of this particular attitude, I’m not even going to finish this blog.
